DIY: Shoebox Crafts

I'm baaaaaack!
I'm so excited for the new year, and plan on posting a lot more in 2014.
To start off the new year, here are two shoebox crafts that are perfect for any classroom.

Shoebox Craft #1: Love Notes Mailbox

A "Love Notes" mailbox is an adorable way to allow students to write notes to the teacher. These notes are just between the student and teacher, so the students don't feel embarrassed that their thoughts or feelings will be shared with their peers. Whether it's to tell the teacher that they enjoyed a lesson or like the teacher's outfit that day, it's a great way for the students to communicate with their teacher .

Supplies Needed:
Shoebox with lid
Wrapping paper
Newspaper clippings (I used comic strips)
Heart (I used a free printable that I found here)
Stickers (optional)
Glue
Paintbrush
Scissors
Tape

Directions:
1. Cover the shoebox and lid with wrapping paper. This will make it easier when gluing the newspaper clippings.
2. With scissors, cut an opening in the center of the lid that is large enough to fit folded paper inside.
3. Glue newspaper clippings to box and lid using a paintbrush.
4. After the glue has dried, tape heart with that reads "Love Notes" (in writing or with stickers) to the front of the lid.
5. Place in classroom and allow students to put notes inside. :)

Shoebox Craft #2: Desk Caddy

A desk caddy is a cute way to store supplies such as pens, markers, and highlighters on your desk. It's also super easy to make!

Supplies Needed:
Shoebox
Cardboard toilet paper rolls (Mine needed 18 to fill up the shoebox)
Patterned contact paper (I found mine at Walmart!)
Scissors

Directions:
1. Cover shoebox with patterned contact paper.
2. Fill shoebox with cardboard toilet paper rolls.
3. Place supplies in rolls.
4. Place on desk! (So easy!)

Alexandra

DIY: Teacher Supplies Organization

Need a cute and organized way to store your teacher and/or classroom supplies?
Check out this easy and inexpensive way to do it!

Items Needed:
"Stack On" 18 Drawer Storage Cabinet
(I got mine at Lowes for about $20!)
Labels
(The ones I used were a free download on Teachers Pay Teachers!)
Scissors
Scotch Tape
Sharpie

Instructions:
1. After purchasing the storage cabinet, I printed the labels on regular computer paper. (Link to labels here!)
2. Since the labels I chose to use were a little too big for the drawers, I cut them to fit better.
3. Then, I wrote the name of the supplies I stored on each label with a black Sharpie pen.
4. I placed a label on each drawer with 2 pieces of Scotch tape. That way, I can easily remove it and replace with another label if I choose to store something else in the future.

Happy organizing!

Warmly,
Alexandra
